Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI)
This policy outlines the journal’s position on the ethical and responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of manuscripts submitted for publication. The policy aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the scholarly record.
1. Authorship and Accountability
AI Cannot Be Listed as an Author
AI tools and AI-assisted technologies (e.g., Large Language Models and Generative AI) do not meet the criteria for authorship. They are unable to assume responsibility for the content, integrity, or originality of a manuscript. Therefore, AI tools or software must not be listed as authors under any circumstances.
Full Responsibility of Authors
All authors bear full responsibility and accountability for the content of their submitted manuscript, including any material generated, edited, or enhanced using AI tools. This responsibility includes ensuring the accuracy, validity, originality, and ethical compliance of all components of the work. Authors must carefully verify all statements, data, citations, and interpretations produced with AI assistance.
Requirement for Human Oversight
The use of AI must be conducted under strict human supervision. Authors are required to critically review, revise, and validate any AI-generated content to ensure it meets scientific standards, methodological rigor, and ethical guidelines.
2. Transparency and Disclosure
Mandatory Disclosure
Authors are required to explicitly disclose the use of GenAI or AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of their manuscript. Disclosure must be clear, specific, and transparent.
Information to Be Disclosed
The disclosure should include the following:
- Name of the AI tool(s) used (e.g., ChatGPT [OpenAI], Bard [Google], Grammarly, GPT-4, Midjourney).
- Purpose of use, such as language editing, grammar checking, drafting specific sections (clearly specify which sections), idea generation, data analysis assistance, or image generation.
- Extent of use, describing how the AI contributed to the manuscript.
Placement of Disclosure
The disclosure statement should be included in one of the following sections:
- Acknowledgements section (recommended for general writing assistance)
- Methods section (if AI was used in methodological processes such as data analysis or coding)
- A dedicated “Declaration of AI Use” section, placed before the References or as a footnote on the title page
3. Example of Disclosure Statement
Authors may use the following examples as guidance:
- “Portions of this manuscript were drafted and/or edited using ChatGPT (OpenAI). The tool was used to improve language clarity and assist in drafting the Introduction section. All AI-generated content has been critically reviewed, revised, and validated by the authors, who take full responsibility for the final manuscript.”
- “Figure X was generated using Midjourney. The authors provided the prompts and subsequently reviewed and modified the output to ensure accuracy, relevance, and compliance with scientific standards.”
